Pros and Cons of the Online Degree

There are many different pros and cons to earning an online degree. If you or someone you know is thinking about higher education, take some time to weigh all of the benefits and of course all of the disadvantages to going to school on the internet. Attending an online university is not all good, so keep that in mind. I would say that the first step is to decide what kind of online degree you would like to earn. Be aware that some programs and courses of study are simply not an online degree yet. If you want to earn an online degree, you might want to give up on nursing or a medical field. There is just no way to study nursing without the precious hands on time that you get with a traditional university. I know that for me, the hands on aspect of college was the most important part. I would really struggle with an online degree probably most for that reason. Let me also spend a little time talking about the college experience, something that you will certainly miss from getting an online degree. For me, learning in college was not restricted to the classroom alone. I learned so many things about myself, including how I work best, the best study practices, and very important social skills that I would not have learned anywhere else. That is one reason why I think the online degree is perfect for older folks, or people who tried a traditional university but for one reason or another struggled and could not complete it. When it comes to an online degree, one’s personality definitely plays a huge role. If you are a self-motivated, hard worker who finds their motivation from within, an online degree is a good choice for you. If you are more like me, and need to be pushed by other people, you may want to stay clear of an online university. I have only scratched the surface on the pros and cons, so if this is something you are considering, go out and look at the many more advantages and disadvantages of an online degree.
